Secure Your School's Network with CyberSight™
Schools can't afford to be complacent about network security.
Not if they are to convince parents that their children are
protected from adult material on the Internet, and governors that
confidential school files and exam papers are off limits to young,
furtive minds.
Hacking is no longer confined to the realms of the students of
ICT classes. There are tools on the Internet that make hacking into
computer systems as easy as pointing and clicking a mouse
button.
Schools are keen that students should have easy access to the
Internet as an educational resource, but not the seedier side of
the Internet; and as they develop home-school Internet links, and
move more towards using networks to manage school administration,
assessment, and recording and reporting data, they have to be 100
per cent certain that networks are secure.
Children are by
definition inquisitive and driven to test their boundaries, add to
that the fact that Hacking is now seen as being cool...
Less obvious are the implications of allowing the adults of
tomorrow access to an environment in which they are not held
accountable for the use of hacking tools. Children are by
definition inquisitive and driven to test their boundaries, add to
that the fact that Hacking is now seen as being cool it is
inevitable that many children will be drawn into the world of
hacking. So what are the consequences of allowing this sort of
activity to go unchecked? Firstly we are setting an expectation in
young minds that it is possible to invade individual and corporate
privacy with impunity and this is not a healthy mindset to take
into adult life - in effect we are encouraging the development of
the next generation of hackers. Secondly and perhaps more sinister
is the inevitable exposure these inquisitive minds will have to the
darker aspects of human nature associates with illegitimate uses
that the internet is put to - aspects such as child pornography,
prostitution, drug culture and other non Internet related criminal
activities. Can we afford to ignore the possibility that
unrestrained access to the Internet could provide an environment in
which a child can make that one decision that sets him or her on
the path of destruction? On a more positive note active and
appropriate policing can have its benefits, if we can catch the
individual early enough it stands to reason that they can be given
guidance to make a better life choice or even encouraged to become
one of the next generation of cyber security expert!
CyberSight™ from Cryptic Software offers a pro-active approach
to detecting the presence of hacking and abuse threats, and
critically flagging them up before they can cause any damage. It
also detects and protects against the most dangerous threats of
all: computer chip nukers; e-mail bombers; trojan informers; trojan
generators. Its advanced capability detection methodologies will
also enable CyberSightTM to detect and inform you about new threats
that are not in its database yet.
